Can any home have central air?
Yes! We can install central air in any home or business.

When should I replace my existing AC unit?
When the cost to repair it exceeds half the cost to replace & is it is no longer feasible to make repairs; such as a leaking evap coil, grounded compressor etc especially if the system uses the old R22 Freon which is being phased out & is extremely costly.

How much does a new air conditioner cost?
Several thousand dollars depending on the size & style. Split, Package etc.

What is the average life of an air conditioner?
10-15 years.

How do I know what size air conditioning unit my house needs?
Square footage/ heat load calculations.

When running my AC, should the thermostat fan switch be set to "auto" or "on"?
Auto. On makes the fan run continuously.

My AC isn’t working—what should I check before calling Southern Comfort?
Breakers, disconnect, drains (if they are clogged & water builds in the pan the float switch can shut the unit off).

My air conditioner runs for a while but freezes up—why?
Dirty or thick pleated air filters, dirty coils, low on coolant, start capacitor or fan motor going out.

Is there anything I can do to make my air conditioner more energy-efficient?
Find a temperature you are comfortable with & keep the thermostat on that temp versus bumping it up & down.

How often does my AC need maintenance?
Usually annually. We recommend a twice a year service (an a/c check in Spring & a heat check in Fall).

No
